The recruitment industry in the UK is worth £25 billion. It attracts many ambitious, entrepreneurial Graduates and sales people, as it can offer uncapped earnings coupled with clear career progression opportunities. The role of a Recruitment Consultant is fast paced and sales focussed. Recruitment is very much like running your own business, and on a day to day basis you will manage the recruitment lifecycle from start to finish. This will involve cold calling companies to find out their recruitment needs and to sell the service that you can offer.
The sales style is very consultative, however you will need to be comfortable with cold calling companies and speaking to Managing Directors and business owners. Once you have won the business, you will need to find candidates. You will place adverts on job boards, search company databases and headhunt. After you have interviewed candidates you will prepare them for their interviews and manage the process through to your candidate accepting the job and earning your commission!
The role of a Recruitment Consultant is incredibly varied. You could find yourself recruiting with high profile brand names and managing the careers of Graduates through to Directors. Recruitment Consultancy can be hard work, but the rewards are phenomenal. You might be a recent graduate just starting out, or perhaps you have a couple of years’ sales experience under your belt. What is important is that you are a natural rapport builder and that you can build relationships at all levels. You will be professional in your approach, articulate and competitive.
